Releases are time-based, each with a fixed release date.
Starting with 26.1.1, Cisco publishes two releases per year at approximately six-month intervals. All 26.x releases are Extended Support releases with a sustaining support lifetime of 48 months from GA. Software maintenance ends 12 months after the end-of-sale date, followed by vulnerability and security support for a further 30 months.
Up to 17.18, the schedule specified 3 minor releases per year at 4-month intervals. 17.x releases numbered first or second in each three-release sequence (e.g. 17.1, 17.2, 17.4, 17.5…) receive standard support, with 12 months of critical bug fixes and security updates. Every third release (e.g. 17.3, 17.6…) receives extended support, with 30 months of critical bug fixes and security updates, followed by an additional 18 months of security updates only.
